Venezuela Halts Issuing Visas to Israelis
It is ridiculous that Venezuela has ceased issuing tourist visas to Israelis, because Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's is against the occupation regime.
Chavez recalled his top diplomat in Israel to protest the "genocide Israel was committing in Lebanon" during the occupation regime's 34-day invasion of Lebanon.
He also referred to the occupation regime's military offensive in Lebanon as a "new Holocaust". No tourist visa had been issued since two and half months ago. I believe that this so called genocide is not a victory for Israel, nor Lebanon.

Though I agree that Venezuela shouldn't punish the Israeli people for their government’s actions, I think that Chavez has a point. The actions of Israel have had detrimental effects on surrounding populations. Since the U.S. is Israel’s chief ally, our news coverage of Israeli conflicts, most notably the Palestinian and Israeli conflicts, is highly skewed in favor of the Israel. I hadn't realized just how much so until going to Europe this last summer. I am not asking you to change your mind, but I know that there are genuine grievances many nations hold against Israel. This news story is much more complicated than a simple denial of visas. I would recommend reading about the issue more or talking to some of the groups on campus which speak about the role of Israel in the world, namely the MSU. Anyway, that's my two cents.
